What is yoga?
The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root "yuj" which means to "join" and the
related meaning is "to focus attention". The aim of yoga is to balance the mind and body
through breathing. By practicing asanas (poses) and pranayama (control of breath) you
will reap the physical and mental benefits that yoga offers. By restoring the body, yoga
frees the mind of negative feelings and stress caused by todays hectic lifestyle.

Where did yoga come from?
Yoga originated thousands of years ago in India and has made it's way around the world.
There are many different styles of yoga that focus on the different aspects. My classes
are Hatha based on and focus on postures, breathing, alignment, relaxation and safety.

How will yoga benefit me?
Not only will you look and feel better, but practicing yoga cleanses the body by increasing
the circulation of fresh blood and oxygen throughout the entire body. Yoga strengthens
muscles, improves flexibility, balance, body awareness and stamina. While many forms
of exercise are forceful and exhausting yoga is rejuvenating and energizing. Yoga affects
100% of the body and benefits your joints, tissues, muscles, cells, nerves, glands and all
organ systems instead of just focusing on one muscle group. When practicing yoga you
will experience a quiet and calm mind while being focused, aware and completely in the
moment. The benefits of yoga are truly infinite!

Who should practice yoga?
Anyone and everyone who wants to experience the benefits of yoga. Because yoga
postures can be modified, you are never to out of shape and will never out grow the
postures so you will always be challenged. Yoga evolves and adapts with you. While
doing yoga the focus is totally on yourself and learning to be in the moment. Yoga is
never competitive and is ultimately a journey of self discovery and uniting the mind
and body. There are no age, weight or fitness level limits so everyone can discover and
enjoy yoga.

What if I'm not a human pretzel?
Most people aren't. Yoga is about balancing the body whether you need to improve your
strength, balance or flexibility. Yoga is not about the end result - it is about the journey
and your intentions. With pure intentions your journey will be successful and you will end
up where you need to be.

How should I get started?
You just have to show up with an open mind and an empty stomach. Wear comfortable
clothing that allows you to move freely and that have a closer fit so the instructor can
view your body alignment. Bring your own yoga mat, water and a towel. The yoga class
is to benefit you and it is important to listen to your body and move at your own speed.
The best gift you can give to others is a healthy, happy you.
